TL;DR
An automotive service center in Tbilisi has been reimagined as a hybrid space combining vehicle maintenance, retail, and exhibition elements. The design features industrial materials and kinetic displays, blurring the line between service and experience. This innovative approach aims to redefine customer engagement in automotive environments.
An automotive service center in Tbilisi, Georgia, has been redesigned as a hybrid exhibition and retail space, integrating industrial materials and kinetic displays to enhance customer engagement. The project, developed for Tegeta Holding by Material Editors with creative lead Teona Kokhodze, reimagines vehicle maintenance environments as interactive architectural experiences.
The 255-square-meter space, named Reimagine The Ride, combines industrial infrastructure with exhibition design principles. It exposes operational elements like tires on rotating stands and maintenance products on curated wall displays, making the service process part of the visual experience. Custom-designed kinetic and illuminated interventions, including infinity mirrors, LED tubes, and rotating mechanisms, create visual depth and guide visitors through different zones without disrupting workflows.
The interior features a layered material palette drawn from automotive manufacturing, including silver-painted metal tubes, perforated steel sheets, Plexiglass, and leather. Existing industrial components are retained and repurposed, supporting long-term adaptability through modular systems. The design emphasizes transparency and operational visibility, transforming typical service infrastructure into part of the aesthetic and experiential framework.
Innovative Approach to Customer Engagement in Auto Spaces
This project demonstrates a new model for automotive service environments, where operational elements are integrated into the design as part of the customer experience. By combining industrial materials with kinetic displays, it challenges traditional notions of car maintenance spaces and offers a more interactive, transparent approach. This could influence future automotive retail and service concepts, emphasizing visual engagement and experiential design, potentially impacting how brands present themselves and interact with customers.

Reimagining Automotive Service Environments
Traditional automotive service centers focus on functionality and conceal operational processes. Recent design trends, however, explore transparency and experiential engagement, blending retail and exhibition strategies. The Reimagine The Ride project aligns with this shift, utilizing kinetic installations and industrial aesthetics to create a space that is both functional and visually compelling. The concept builds on previous efforts to integrate retail and experiential elements into automotive environments, but it uniquely emphasizes exposed operational components and dynamic displays.
“The design exposes the operational aspects of vehicle maintenance, turning them into part of the aesthetic experience.”
